Solahart PowerStore, a power storage & hot water system combo

The Solahart PowerStore® is Australia’s first solar electric water heater that can take excess energy and use it to create hot water.

Solahart PowerStore from Solahart Newcastle

How does the PowerStore work?

The Solahart PowerStore® is not a standalone water heater & it is not a battery storage system. It is designed to work with both new and existing solar power systems that can be combined with compatible Home Energy Management System (HEMS) that can result in greater savings.

Unlike conventional water heaters that only heat water using energy from the grid, a Solahart PowerStore® system takes excess power from your solar power system, and then uses it to heat water gradually throughout the day. Even on cloudy days, Solahart PowerStore® ensures you have a reliable supply of hot water by drawing the minimum power from the grid that is necessary.

Adding HEMS to your Solahart PowerStore® system allows you to purchase energy when it is cheaper by shifting loads away from peak demand periods. It also helps predict solar energy generation from your solar power system by using seasonal and daily weather patterns, and decides on when it’s best to use high energy consuming devices such as air conditioners and pool pumps.

How does the Solahart PowerStore system work

One of the best water heaters available

The Solahart PowerStore is one of the best water heaters available in Newcastle because unlike normal electric water heaters that use fixed-power heating elements, it uses triple-blade heating units designed to match the variable energy delivered from your excess solar power.

We designed the system to have two of these heating units, one at the bottom and one towards the top. This means the top area of the tank is heated to 60 degrees regardless of the availability of excess solar power to give you hot water even on cloudy days. When the system receives excess solar power it is directed to the heating units as required based on the amount of hot water in the unit. The heating is then automatically managed until the tank reaches its maximum temperature or there is no more excess solar power available.

It is a clever, efficient and modern hot water heater system that can save money on your energy bills.

How much can PowerStore save on energy bills?

The Mair family from Frenchs Forest in Sydney are the first Solahart customer in Australia – and the world – to install a Solahart PowerStore system. A family of five, the Mairs have combined it with an 8.7kW solar power system and are expected to save $3,500 on their annual power bill.

“Our last quarterly energy bill was around $1,600,” says Patrick.

“We have a pool which we also heat in the cooler months and an air conditioner which is expensive to run, so we felt that something had to be done to reduce our high energy bills. We decided to install solar power together with Solahart PowerStore and disconnect our old water heater. Now we can make use of our energy when the sun is at its peak. We believe the combination of solar power and Solahart PowerStore is a real game-changer.”

Every installation includes a Gateway to complement your solar panel system (either new or existing) and it can monitor the solar power you’ve generated, how much energy you are consuming and it can all be viewed on your computer or mobile phone.

For those who choose to subscribe to the Energy Management service, the Gateway will use tariff modelling, knowledge of your energy usage patterns, and weather forecast data to co-ordinate the use of solar and grid energy which can help to further reduce your energy bills.

The service can even send you alerts by email and SMS if your energy devices are under-performing. It means that you can always feel comfortable that you are maximising the benefits your system can deliver.

Frequently Asked Questions

A typical PowerStore unit is around half the cost of a battery storage system and has the benefit of potentially reducing your hot water energy bills while being integrated into your solar panel system.

A PowerStore can be installed either indoors or outdoors. The Solahart Newcastle Team can help you with the best location for installation.

No. A PowerStore works with a solar power system to capture the excess energy and turn it into hot water. In order to store energy to power appliances in your home you will need to install a battery storage system.

Yes. A PowerStore can be integrated into an existing solar panel system. To find out if a PowerStore will suit your existing system, please book a free in-home appointment.

Yes it is possible to have a PowerStore integrated into some existing solar power systems with a battery. However, it may not be necessary or worth it financially depending on system size and energy consumption patterns.

A PowerStore has a 315L tank suitable for families.

Solahart Solar Storage Packages

Australian households and businesses are increasingly embracing solar technology, with more than 3 million homes fitted with rooftop solar panels.

However, many homeowners are not harnessing the full potential of their solar power systems.

A large proportion of energy is generated when it’s not needed in the middle of the day. In this case, the excess energy is sent back to the grid for minimal financial return.

Connecting a home battery and a Solahart PowerStore® solar-smart electric water heater to your solar power system allows you to store your unused energy so you can use it when you need it (at night, on low-sunlight days, when utility rates are more expensive, or during blackouts).

Adding a Solahart Energy Management Unit helps you more actively manage how you consume energy throughout your home.
